However we also often extend the band to include our fantastic horn players, expanding the band to include sax (7-piece) or sax and trumpet (8-piece).

We can also provide a sophisticated jazz quintet to play during receptions or before the main set.

Fiona Wiggins

Fiona Wiggins

Fiona sings lead female and backing vocals, plus playing keyboard when Geoff isn’t! Fiona did her music degree and trained as a teacher in Oxford, and teaches both piano and singing. She has spent much of her career working with and drawing musicians together, and putting other people and bands on stage, and finally when FlipSideJack was formed found that it was easier to do the female vocals herself than to keep teaching other people to do it!

She also runs FlipSideJack’s booking, hiring and working with the clients. She organises the gigs and generally bosses everyone around!

John Kelly

John Kelly

John graduated from Leeds College of Music’s Jazz programme in 2005. After a period of playing around the country, and a 4 year guitar teaching post at the same college where he trained, he moved to London to work solely as a musician. He works busily as a sideman in London and often around Europe playing mostly jazz, both modern and early styles, and has performed at many of the more notable venues such as Ronnie Scott’s,The Jazz Cafe, etc. He also specialises in Congolese guitar styles and can be heard playing with the acclaimed Congolese Rhumba Fusion outfit Kongo Dia N’totila.

Geoff Lawson

Geoff Lawson

Geoff plays keyboards and acoustic guitar in the band and writes most of the arrangements for FlipSideJack. He also contributes rock and roll vocals and backing harmonies when prodded hard enough. Geoff studied music at Cambridge University and works as a composer and orchestrator for film, television and musical theatre. In his spare time he is partial to chocolate and a good game of table tennis.

Pete Thomas

Pete Thomas

Pete first started playing the guitar at 7 years old playing classical music, he persevered with this for four years until he got his first electric guitar!

The music enjoyed was 1960’s pop, particularly the sound of Hank Marvin and the Shadows.

During his early teen years he played with several bands performing different genres. A swing band, a ska band and a 5 piece jazz band. Several performances followed which included The Henley Youth Festival (where Fiona spotted him, and immediately perloined him into playing for the newly formed FlipSideJack as their full time bass player), and the one time summer event, “Summer Grooves” on 2004.

His main influences are Jet Harris of The Shadows, Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones and most importantly the Late John Entwistle of The Who.

He graduated from the College of Performing Arts, Newcastle upon Tyne where he successfully qualified as a technician in sound and lighting for music and theatre.

He is also currently playing for Megan Henwood, the winner of the BBC 2 folk awards!

Upon joining Imperial College London he became the resident drummer in its big band, winning a Gold Award at the National Concert Band Festival final in Cardiff and playing at the Brecon Jazz Festival and Shanghai World Expo 2010.

He also contributes arrangements for FlipSideJack and teaches privately.

Lara works regularly in theatre, on BBC radio and on camera and is an associate artist of multi-award winning musical comedy troupe Barbershopera. As a singer she has worked internationally and sung at numerous concerts and private functions. Lara also plays the flute – a useless instrument for a singer to accompany herself with!
